Lovens develops electric cargo bikes for families who attach great importance to comfort, safety, finishing quality and a neat integration of the equipment.
The Explorer 2 combines a front cargo bed with cable steering, a suspension fork, belt drive and the Bosch Smart System. Thanks to various motors, batteries, gear systems and equipment options, the bike can then be tailored to its intended use.

A family cargo bike, designed as one well-thought-out whole
For a cargo bike that is used daily, comfort does not depend on a single component. It arises from the right balance between the frame, the steering, the suspension, the riding position, the motor support and the layout of the cargo box.
Lovens developed the Explorer 2 from this all-encompassing approach. Thanks to the front cargo box, the children and luggage remain within the cyclist's field of vision. The cable steering offers a wide steering angle, while the suspension fork and wide tyres help to absorb bumps in the road surface.
The Gates CDX belt drive ensures quiet operation and requires less regular maintenance than a traditional chain. The Bosch Smart System complements this with smart connectivity and a Purion 200 display mounted directly on the handlebars.
So the Explorer 2 was not only developed to carry more. The main aim is to make regular family trips more comfortable, smoother and easier to organise.
A Dutch brand, built on years of experience with electric bicycles
Lovens is part of Optima Cycles, a company founded in 1994 with facilities in the Netherlands and Taiwan. The group has been building expertise in electric bicycles since 2008 and started producing cargo bikes in 2012.
The Lovens brand was launched in 2021 with the first Explorer. This model laid the foundation for the key elements of its identity: a recognisable frame, cable steering, a front cargo box and particular attention to family comfort.
The Explorer 2, introduced in 2025, builds on this foundation with a new frame, a greater steering angle, a new generation of Bosch motors and various technological features.
In 2026, the Explorer 2 received, amongst other things, the title of Cargo Bike of the Year during the RAI Bike Awards, alongside several international design awards. These accolades highlight Lovens' ambition to bring together design, functionality and technical integration in a single bike.
Supercycles’ vision
A more powerful version or a larger battery is not automatically the best choice. Above all, the bike must suit the conditions in which it will actually be used.
For relatively flat routes and limited loads, a simpler motor may suffice entirely. When the bike is used daily with multiple passengers, on hilly routes or with a heavy load, a more powerful assistance can provide extra comfort.
The choice between manual and automatic gear shifting also depends on the cyclist's preferences. Automatic shifting makes frequent stopping and setting off again easier, while manual operation offers direct control over the gear system.

Which Lovens Explorer 2 suits you?
Explorer 2 S60: simplicity
The S60 combines the Bosch Active Line Plus motor (60 Nm) with a manually operated Shimano Nexus 5 hub. It retains the cable steering, the suspension fork and the Gates CDX belt drive.
This version is particularly suitable for relatively flat routes, a limited load and users who do not need automatic gears or ABS. It thus offers the comfort of the Explorer 2 in a simple and cohesive configuration for everyday use.
Explorer 2 S75: versatility
The S75 combines the 75 Nm Bosch Performance Line motor with an Enviolo Heavy Duty hub. The gear-shifting system can be operated manually or equipped with AUTOMATiQ, with the option to add ABS.
This version is suitable for regular family use with passengers, groceries and frequent stops. It offers more support than the S60 and provides a versatile setup for daily and urban journeys with a full boot.
Explorer 2 S100: power
The S100 combines a Bosch Cargo Line motor with a torque of up to 100 Nm and an Enviolo Extreme hub. It is available with manual control, with or without ABS, or with AUTOMATiQ in combination with ABS.
This version is suitable for heavy loads, hilly routes and intensive use. It offers the most powerful assistance within the range, but is not necessary for families who mainly travel short, flat routes with children.
Explorer 2: family life
The three versions can be equipped with a 400 Wh, 545 Wh or 800 Wh Bosch battery. Lovens also offers various equipment options to adapt the cargo box to the use of each family.
A baby seat, toddler seat, additional front bench, rain cover, luggage carrier or lighting can further complement the bike. Compatibility must always be checked based on the passengers, their weight and the accessories already fitted.

What is the difference between the Lovens S60, S75 and S100?
The three versions use the same base frame, the same cargo box, the same cable steering, the same suspended front fork and a Gates CDX belt drive.
The S60 is equipped with a 60 Nm Bosch Performance Line motor and a Shimano Nexus 5-speed gear hub. The S75 uses a 75 Nm Performance Line motor combined with an Enviolo Heavy Duty hub. The S100 features a 100 Nm Bosch Cargo Line motor and an Enviolo Extreme hub.
The options for automatic transmission and ABS also vary depending on the model.
Which battery do you choose for a Lovens Explorer 2?
The various models are available with multiple Bosch battery capacities. The right choice depends on the distances you travel, the terrain, the weight carried, the level of assistance used, and your opportunities to charge the battery.
A larger battery offers more reserve, but also increases the price and weight of the bike. We are happy to help you choose a suitable capacity without promising a fixed range, as this varies greatly depending on the conditions of use.
Can the Lovens grow with the children?
Yes. With various accessories, the load bed can be adapted as the family grows: a baby seat adapter, a toddler seat, a child seat adapter, an extra bench and a rain cover.
However, not all combinations are mutually compatible. The seating arrangement must be checked based on age, weight and the number of passengers.
Can I test ride a Lovens at Supercycles?
Certain models and configurations may be available for a test ride. We recommend checking our online inventory or contacting us prior to your visit to make sure which bicycle is currently in the store.
During the test ride, we will help you get familiar with the cable steering, the use of the kickstand and the first manoeuvres with the bicycle.
