Veloe Multi and Multi Lungo: Italian family bikes

The Veloe Multi and Multi Longo are longtail cargo bikes designed to transport children, groceries or equipment without the bulk of a box bike.

Its chromoly steel frame, integrated rear carrier and extensive equipment options combine to form a versatile base that can grow with the family and daily needs.

At Supercycles in Alsemberg, on the border with Sint-Genesius-Rode and south of Brussels, we help you choose between the compact size of the Multi and the extra load capacity of the Multi Lungo.

A family bike that is also pleasant to ride without passengers

The original idea behind Veloe was to develop a single bicycle that can carry a child, tools and groceries, whilst at the same time continuing to ride like a normal city bike.

That philosophy is reflected in the design of the rear carrier. It forms an integral part of the frame and can be fitted with various seats, cushions, guards, baskets or panniers.

In this way, the same bicycle can be used in the morning for the ride to school, during the day for business trips, and on the way back for grocery shopping.

This versatility is especially interesting for families who want to replace certain car journeys without immediately opting for a large cargo bike with a box at the front.

Multi: compact by nature

The Multi retains the proportions of a city bike, but adds a 67 cm rear carrier. The two 24-inch wheels ensure a natural riding feel. It is particularly suitable for daily journeys with one child, two children depending on the chosen setup, shopping or equipment.

Multi Lungo: more space

The Multi Lungo features a 77 cm rear carrier and combines a 24-inch front wheel with a 20-inch rear wheel. It offers more space for child seats while keeping the total length down to 186 cm. It is suitable for families who regularly transport two children, or even more depending on the chosen setup.

A genuine Italian production

Veloe frames are designed, welded, painted and assembled near Milan. The Chromoly steel construction and integrated rear carrier provide a durable foundation for intensive daily use. The wide choice of colours, including various RAL colours, gives each bike its own, less standard appearance.

From school to the shops

Thanks to child seats, safety bars, footrests, panniers, front baskets and rain covers, the same bike can be used for the journey to school as well as for shopping or transporting equipment. However, each configuration must be checked taking into account the passengers, their weight and the frame model.

Designed, welded, painted and assembled near Milan

Veloe is a brand owned by the Italian company VELO-CE. The first model was launched in 2020 and was built around a compact frame with a large rear cargo capacity.

The brand is not limited to the design of the bicycle. In its own production facility, various metal parts are cut out, the frames are welded and painted, the wheels are built up, and the Multi and Multi Lungo are fully assembled.

The motors and certain components are, of course, supplied by specialist manufacturers such as Bosch, Shimano and Gates. However, the frame is manufactured and painted, and the bicycle is assembled, in Italy, near Milan.

Thanks to this method, Veloe is able to offer a range of colours, including specific RAL colours, depending on the model and the chosen configuration.

Which Veloe should I choose?

The Multi and Multi Lungo share the same philosophy: a one-size-fits-all Chromoly steel frame, an integrated rear rack, a high load-carrying capacity and accessories that allow the bike to be adapted to different needs.

Veloe states a maximum load of 200 kg, including the cyclist. However, this does not mean that every passenger configuration is automatically permitted. The weight of each person, the seats and accessories used, and their individual weight limits must also be observed.

Veloe Multi: the compact mid-tail

The Veloe Multi is 180 cm long and has a rear rack measuring 67 cm. It is fitted with two 24-inch wheels.

This configuration retains a seating position and handling that are similar to those of a city bike. This makes manoeuvring, parking and cycling without a passenger on the back easier.

Depending on their age and the chosen configuration, the Multi can carry up to two children in the back. In practice, it is particularly suitable for:

  • one child and the shopping;

  • a child seat and a seat cushion;

  • two children, provided their car seats and build allow it;

  • professional transport of equipment;

  • a combination of domestic and personal use.

If two large child seats need to remain permanently fitted, the Multi Lungo can offer a more comfortable arrangement.

Veloe Multi Lungo: the family longtail

The Multi Lungo is 186 cm long and has a rear wheelbase of 77 cm. It combines a 24-inch front wheel with a 20-inch rear wheel.

The smaller rear wheel ensures that passengers and luggage are positioned lower down. The 77 cm rear rack offers more options for combining child seats, cushions, bags and rain covers.

According to Veloe, with the correct set-up, the Multi Lungo can carry up to three children in the back. Such a configuration must always be checked, taking into account the children’s age and weight, as well as the seats used.

The Multi Lungo is particularly of interest to:

  • transporting two children every day;

  • two child seats that remain permanently fitted;

  • older children who need more space;

  • the simultaneous carriage of passengers and school bags;

  • for family use, combined with regular shopping trips;

  • who likes to have a bit of extra transport capacity left over.

Veloe Multi Power: the version without an electric motor

Veloe also offers the Multi Power, a non-electric version based on the compact design of the Multi.

It retains the 24-inch wheels and the 67 cm rear rack. Depending on the configuration, it can be fitted with a Shimano Nexus hub and either a chain or a Gates belt drive.

This version is suitable for cyclists who want the Multi’s carrying capacity without a motor or battery. Availability at Supercycles should be checked at the time of enquiry.

Bosch or Shimano?

Depending on the model, model year and availability, the electric versions of the Multi and Multi Lungo can be equipped with a Bosch or Shimano mid-mounted motor.

Bosch Cargo Line

The Bosch Cargo Line is particularly well suited when the bicycle regularly transports multiple passengers, often travels on hilly routes or has to pull away frequently with a heavy load.

Depending on the model offered, the Bosch configurations can be combined with various gear systems, including Nexus, Enviolo, AUTOMATiQ or 3X3. A chain or Gates belt drive may also be available.

Shimano

The Shimano versions offer a simpler configuration, while retaining the same family basis.

The engine generation, battery capacity and available transmission systems may vary per model year. These details must be checked for the actually ordered configuration and should not simply be copied from an older technical specification sheet.

The choice must not be based solely on the specified torque. The way in which the assistance is built up, the cyclist's natural cadence, the gear system and the relief of the route also play an important role.

Supercycles’ vision

The Veloe's greatest asset is not a spectacular feature, but the good balance between its transport capacity and its handling.

In terms of dimensions, the Multi remains close to a city bike. The Multi Lungo has a rear carrier that is 10 cm longer than that of the Multi, whilst the total length of the bike increases by only 6 cm. That relatively small difference can offer valuable extra space when two children, their schoolbags and a few groceries all need to be carried together.

Current models are equipped with a rigid front fork. The steel frame and wide tyres contribute to riding comfort, but do not replace suspension on cobblestones, uneven joints or damaged roads.

Due to the hilly character of Beersel, Alsemberg and the south of Brussels, the choice of motor is more important here than in a completely flat region. The transported weight, the cadence and how often you encounter inclines must be weighed up before ordering.

Build your Veloe with Supercycles

Choosing a Veloe starts with a simple question: how much space do you actually need every day?

The Multi can be more pleasant when you are mainly transporting one child, groceries or equipment. The Multi Lungo becomes more interesting when two children and their gear regularly have to come along.

This choice is particularly important in our region. A configuration that drives pleasantly on a flat route without a load will not necessarily feel the same on the slopes of Alsemberg with two passengers and their gear.

FAQ?

What is the difference between the Veloe Multi and the Multi Lungo?

The Multi is an 180 cm midtail with two 24-inch wheels and a 67 cm rear rack.

The Multi Lungo is a 186 cm longtail with a 24-inch front wheel, a 20-inch rear wheel and a 77 cm rear carrier.

With the Multi, the emphasis is on compactness. The Multi Lungo offers extra space for passengers and luggage.

How many children can you transport?

According to Veloe, a maximum of two children can be carried on the back of the Multi and a maximum of three children on the back of the Multi Lungo.

However, what is practically possible depends on the age and weight of the children, the seats used, the accessories fitted and the maximum permissible load.

The specified number must never replace a full inspection of the setup.

What guarantee does Veloe offer?

Veloe offers a lifetime warranty on the frame and front fork of the Multi from generation V3 onwards and of the Multi Lungo, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms and conditions.

A two-year warranty generally applies to the remaining parts. Parts from other manufacturers also remain subject to their own warranty conditions.

Do the Veloe bikes have suspension?

The configurations that Veloe currently offers are equipped with a rigid front fork.

The steel frame and wide tyres contribute to comfort, but the bike does not absorb bumps like a model with suspension forks. A test ride is still recommended if your routes include many cobblestones or roads in poor condition.

Can you test a Veloe at Supercycles?

Some Multi or Multi Lungo models may be available for a test drive.

Check our online stock or contact us before your visit to check which model and configuration are currently in store.

During the test ride we will help you to get the hang of the bike, use the stand and compare the available space of both formats.
